Spring, a Time of Renewal

Ah, spring.

Flowers blooming, birds singing, life is bursting forth everywhere with renewed vigor.

Love is in the air.

What steps are you taking to renew yourself and prepare you mind, body and spirit for love?

Today’s post will provide some ideas and encouragement.

Use the renewed life forces that spring brings to refocus more of your attention on yourself.

In last week’s post, I made the case for focusing more of our attention on self-care.

I pointed out that making my own well being a top priority clearly supports a healthy, mutually empowering relationship with my wife.

Whether you are single seeking love or in a committed relationship you can probably benefit from a renewed focus on improved self-care.

Some areas to focus on:

  • Diet.  Make more conscious choices about what you put in your body.
Try having a piece of fruit, some nuts or seeds for a snack.  Replace coffee with green tea.  Eat a salad once a day.
Food and drink are investments in health or disease.
    It’s always our choice!
  • Exercise in accordance with your age, weight and physical health.  Remember to include some gentle stretching in your routine.
  • Get plenty of rest.
  • Make sure that you have enough alone time.
  • Slow down and take the time to emotionally connect with the people with whom you have regular contact.
Positive emotional connection with others brings joy to our hearts and renews our faith in ourselves and our fellow man.
  • Be patient and gentle with yourself.

Pay attention to your inner dialogue.

The increased mental and emotional energies that come with spring can elicit both positive, hopeful thoughts about our life circumstances as well as negative, self-deprecating ones.

We are always in choice.

Do your best to let go of perspectives that raise any doubts about your capacities to give and receive love.

Always remember that every situation can be seen from numerous perspectives.  You get to choose how you want to see things.

Nurture the positive.

By focusing on the positive, the negative will naturally tend to loose its power over you.

You are enough.

You are completely lovable just the way you are.

Thoughts that arise in your consciousness that tell you otherwise are simply not true… let them go.

Develop the habit of taking a revitalizing pause at least three times a day.

A revitalizing pause can take many forms.  Three times during my workday, I stop what I am doing and take five to ten minutes just for me.

Sometimes I sit outside in my garden and watch the birds.

Sometimes I meditate for a few minutes.

Sometimes I put my feet up and gently close my eyes for a few moments.

Sometimes I do 10 minutes of Hatha yoga.

You get the idea.

Do whatever works for you.

There is a plethora of research that clearly shows that people who regularly take time for themselves to relax and be still:

  • Are more productive,
  • Have fewer emotional struggles,
  • Have more fulfilling relationships,
  • Deal with crises better and,
  • Are generally far less prone to getting sick.

I invite you to join this group of folks.

The bottom line: love yourself!!!

I sincerely hope that you found this post inspiring and useful.
