How I Found True, Lasting Love

WELCOME!

With Valentines’ Day rapidly approaching I wanted take this opportunity to share a little about myself, and my own path to true, lasting love.

A good number of workshop participants and subscribers to this blog have asked me to reveal more of my path to my wife, Julia, my Soul Mate, and the treasure of my heart.

Today, I am going to ‘spill the beans’ and share with you how my wife, Julia, and I got together.

Truth be told, I struggled with mismatched, disappointing romantic relationships for years.

With the help of my Spiritual teacher and a gifted therapist, I was able to end the painful cycle of miss-matched, broken relationships and attract the love of my life.

My path true, lasting, committed love.

I met my wife in college.

I remember that special day like it was yesterday.

I was sitting under a tree at ‘The Rock”, the central square in front of the Library Building, with a friend.

Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed a really cute gal juggling three bean- bag balls.

She came closer and when she got within a few yards she said, “You guys look really comfortable, can I join you?”

Naturally, I spoke right up and invited her to join us.

Well, we all hung out for a while and then I had to run to class.

Before going, I told her that I would be going to the “dance” at the Chalet that coming Wednesday, and said I hoped to see her there.

Everyone who was ‘hip’ went to the Chalet on Wednesdays, so I assumed such a cool gal would be there.

She wasn’t.

Afterwards, I just could not stop thinking about her.

The truth is I looked for her every day for months.

She was that special.

As it turned out circumstances had caused her to not return to the college for classes.  That same week she met her first husband and they began dating.

Well, to make a long story short, I kept my eye out for her the rest of the school year and then I began dating a girl who lived across from me in a college apartment complex.

We ended up moving in together which was popular at the time.

Fast-forward about 2 years.

I had just been hired at the County Department of Mental Health.

I was ‘single’ again and a co-worker from the Therapeutic Day School and I were going out dancing.

We swung by his place so that he could connect with his girl, who was sick and couldn’t join us.

Guess who was there?

Julie, the cute gal I had met in college.

She was room mates with my co-worker’s girlfriend.

We said hello and since she was seriously dating someone, she politely declined my invitation to join the ‘party’.

Fast-forward 18 months:

I was now working at a ‘satellite clinic” and went to the main clinic building to attend a mandatory ‘pot luck’ lunch set up so that all the folks working in the ‘satellite programs’ could meet and hang out with the main clinic staff.

Guess who was at that potluck?

Julie, who was the switchboard operator at the main Clinic!

So, we connected.

She told me that she had gotten married and was part of some ‘spiritual yoga group’.

Well, 9 months later I was at the Community College checking out the possibility of doing an Adult Education Self Help Class and guess who was “working the switchboard”.

Julie.

So, we again talked and on I went to my meeting.

Fast-forward 1 year:

I was now sharing a house with a college friend who had joined our ‘Onsite School Services Team’.

Another colleague, a crises worker, came by rather unexpectedly and invited us to attend a talk on meditation and yoga.

I had taken a few yoga classes and was trying out different forms of meditation so I decided to attend the lecture.

Guess who was also at the lecture?

Julie.

She was there with her first husband.

Well, to make a long story short, I ended up joining and living in that Meditation and Yoga Community.

I also ended up marrying one of the women there and Julie and I became close friends.

In fact, she became one of my best friends.

Now, after about 4 years of marriage to my first wife, we called it quits.

She actually divorced me.

Ouch!

You will recall that Julie and I had become good friends.

Once I got on my feet again- it took me 18 months to really start ‘dating again’- I got involved with one miss-matched relationship after another.

Well, though all of it Julie and I remained friends.  She met some of my ‘girl friends’ and we visited from time to time.

Years went by, but we stayed in touch.

Julie and her first husband decided to divorce.

Julie, who now went by Julia, came to visit me in San Francisco.

During our visit Julia asked me if I would consider dating her!

I very nervously agreed.

I really thought that I was taking a big chance and was likely going to ruin our friendship.

The rest as they say is history!

I am pleased to report that we have been together over 11 years, and have been happily married for over 9 years!

So through all of life’s twists and turns, unexpected results can happen.

Joyful surprises await all of us!

Now if a guy like me can end up with someone as wonderful as my wife, then someone as special you can attract and be in relationship with a well matched partner.

Really!

Just have faith and don’t ever settle for less than you deserve!

And remember, I am always here to help!
