Five Things YOU Can Do Right Now to Attract YOUR Soul Mate – Part 5

Post Five, Letting Go of the Past and Renewing YOUR Vision

This is the fifth in a series of five articles that are intended to help get you “unstuck” and more confidently moving forward on your path to true, lasting love.

In the previous article I shared that cultivating a sincere attitude of gratitude helped me to end my “pity party” and enlist the support of the universe as I journeyed onward toward my Soul Mate.

My professional counseling work with troubled couples led me to continually research ways to help these folks to end the painful cycle of disappointing relationships and get on the path to true, lasting love.

I created dozens of exercises, guided meditations, and structured activities to aid in this process.

So, what do I mean when I say, “letting go of the past?”

Your awareness is where ever you choose to direct your attention.

“Letting go of the past” simply means that when a troubling, sad, or otherwise unpleasant event from the past has your attention, you can choose to direct your attention elsewhere. I call this decision to redirect your attention away from memories that “bring you down”, “letting go of the past.”

The point is you are in control of where you direct your attention.

Never forget that YOU, and YOU alone are the “Captain” of your ship.  It can only go where you direct it.

I encourage you to take the time to do the following exercise.  You will need:

  • about 20 minutes of uninterrupted time
  • a pen and a pad of paper for the last part of this exercise.
  • a willing, open mind

It has three parts:

  1. Relaxing Meditation
  2. Guided Visualization
  3. Questions to consider

Part One:

Relaxing Meditation

  1. You can either sit up straight in a comfortable chair, with your back, neck and head in a single straight line (I recommend using a chair with arms) or lie down on your back on your bed or on a blanket on the floor. In either case, be sure you are comfortable.
  2. Once you are comfortable, take a slow, deep breath in through your nose. Imagine that you are drawing in inspirational and healing forces as you inhale.
  3. Slowly exhale. As you do so, imagine that you are sending all of the tension, anxiety, and negative experiences from the past out into space to be transformed by the universe into positive, healing energy.
  4. Repeat this a few times
  5. Now bring your attention to the present.

Notice how you feel.

Part Two:

Guided visualization

Take a moment and recall a pleasant, shared activity with a man that you like. Recall the pleasing details of this experience.  After you have spent a few moments absorbed in the positive memory of this experience, please take a moment to notice the state of your body and mind.

Part Three:

Some questions to consider.

You will get more out of this exercise if you take the time to write your responses down.

  1. What made the outing or activity with this particular man special?
  2. What made it fun and engaging?
  3. Can you recall making eye contact with him?
  4. Do you remember his smile?  His laugh?  His touch?
  5. What does reflecting about this experience tell you about yourself?
  6. What does reflecting on this experience tell you about what is and is not important about shared activities with men?
  7. Did you discover any important qualities that you would want in your Soul Mate?
