Creating YOUR Relationship Vision for the New Year, Part Two

WELCOME!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

In previous post I shared my belief that clear intentions based on our core values form the foundation of self-directed living.

I also promised to share some “powerful tools” to support your New Year relationship resolutions.

Two powerful tools that will support YOUR New Year relationship resolutions:

  • Creating a vision board
  • Journaling about how your life would be different with your “Mr. Right” by your side

Creating a vision board:

Vision boards are simply a visual representation of the future one aspires to.

A vision board typically includes images from magazines and other sources that depict things, places, people, etc that support a particular, deeply held desire.

For example, one of my colleagues and his wife created a vision board depicting their dream home down to the last little detail of the landscaping, kitchen, kid’s rooms, a music room, an organic vegetable garden with raised beds, etc.  They collected magazines and photos from the internet and spent several weeks creating their vision board.

To make a long story short, they actually recently purchased a home that came very close to matching the one they had so carefully envisioned together.

Surprised?

As it turns out, there is a growing body of research that clearly demonstrates the power of visualization in supporting of positive, lasting life change.  This is partly because images elicit strong emotions that really get to the heart of what we truly want.

How to get the most out of your vision board project:

Focus on the process and not the outcome

The goal is not to create a beautiful piece of art.

The goal is to create a vision board that in inspires you to action and brings you hope in times of challenge.

In this context I strongly recommend that you focus on the process of creating your vision board more than on the outcome.

The process of carefully selecting images (and limited quotations) that truly depict the life you want with YOUR “Mr. Right” is, in and of its-self, incredibly powerful.

This is because when you select a particular image over a “competing one”, you are fine-tuning your vision of your life with YOUR “Mr. Right” by your side.

You are saying “yes” to this and “no” to that.  This process narrows your focus so that you put time, energy, and resources into actions that actually move you in the right direction.

I cannot stress this point enough.

Unity of purpose is essential in enlisting the support of the universe.

By creating a vision board, YOU are starting to unify your consciousness behind clearly set intentions.

Put another way:

The process of creating a vision board establishes a progressively deeper sense of clarity about what’s truly important to us.  This in turn helps us to prioritize our tasks and utilize our resources in ways that actually help us to take the steps necessary to manifest our vision.

Creating a vision board can be fun.

You will need:

  • Some magazines or other source of photographs/images
  • A pair of good sharp scissors
  • A piece of poster board
  • A glue stick
  • Some free time.  I have found that a couple of weeks is a realistic time frame and I encourage you to add images, inspiring statements, etc to your board as time goes on.

When it comes to attracting your “Mr. Right” pictures depicting men you find attractive, activities you enjoy doing, places you love or would like to visit, the type of house you’d like to live in together, landscapes, etc will inspire you to keep striving to attain your dreams.

Select images that really speak to you, that have a strong emotional component… that inspires you to action.

How to get the most out of your vision board:

  • Look at your vision board daily
  • Think of it “as a work in progress”.  Add images, inspiring statements, etc regularly as you further hone your vision of your life with YOUR “Mr. Right”.  This keeps your vision board “alive” and relevant.
  • Put your vision board under your bed or in some other hidden place when you have company to your home.  This way no one can rain on your parade!

Journaling about your life with your “Mr. Right” can also really help to bring your vision of the future into focus.  Writing about things you would enjoy doing together, places you’d like to visit, your ideal home, etc can all be very powerful motivators.

Tip:

Combining regular journaling with a thoughtfully created vision board helps to further unify your consciousness behind your intentions and sends a very clear and potent message to the universe that you intend to realize your dreams.

I hope that you found this post helpful.
