Breaking the Cycle of Disappointing Romantic Relationships

Today’s post is intended to help you to begin to break the cycle of disappointing romantic relationships.

I talk to a lot of people who are really burnt out on the seemingly endless cycle of disappointing romantic relationships.

Many of these people really seem to resonate with the idea that they could consciously attract a committed partner who truly loves them for who they are.

They also seem to embrace the idea that for a romantic relationship to be mutually fulfilling it must also be mutually empowering.

Here’s the rub.

When exploring their relationship history with them, I often discover several important facts:

  • They have never been in a romantic relationship where they truly felt fully seen and loved for the person they are.
  • Many of these folks also expressed that their parents never clearly acknowledged them for the person they really are.
  • Finally, deeper discussions also frequently revealed that their past romantic relationships have tended to be very one sided and certainly not mutually empowering.

Sound at all familiar?

If you want an outcome that you have never had, then you must be willing to try out new and perhaps very different and often challenging strategies.

This is because just doing the same things that you have done in the past will bring you the same unsatisfying results.

New and different results require new and different strategies to achieve.

So if you have never been in a romantic relationship where you were fully seen and loved for the person that you are and you now really want this outcome, then you must be willing to employ some new strategies.

So far, so good?

Keys to making it really count this time around

1.    Become crystal clear on what you want and why
2.    Cultivate an unwavering commitment
3.    Actively seek new strategies to try out
4.    Be brave and get the professional support you need and deserve

Become crystal clear on what you want and why

Journaling about what you want in a committed romantic partnership and why will help you to:

  • Discover what you truly value in a committed, romantic relationship
  • Firmly establish relationship goals that are in alignment with who you are as person.
  • Help you to stay true to the course you have chosen

Cultivate an unwavering commitment

“At the moment of commitment, the universe conspires to assist you.”

Make a firm commitment to yourself to achieve the outcome that you want.

Then renew that commitment daily.

This will help you to stay fully connected to your commitment.

It will also help you to maintain the positive momentum necessary to support the uncomfortable, imperfect actions that taking a new course always requires.

Actively seek new strategies to try out

New and different outcomes require new and different strategies.

I cannot stress this enough.

The classic definition of crazy is relevant here:

“Doing the same thing over and over again but expecting a different result.”

People, myself included, tend to repeat the same relationship patterns and mistakes.

Self- awareness and self-development are the keys to replacing maladaptive patterns that simply attract more incompatible partners with adaptive patterns that will actually achieve the outcome you desire.

Access to more potential partners is not the answer!

Be brave and get the professional support you need and deserve

Simply having access to more potential partners can never resolve the inner issues and conflicts that have undermined your relationship efforts thus far.

Creating a personalized action plan and trying out new things always brings up inner struggles that are best faced with the help of qualified professional support.

YOU do not have to do it all on your own!

While self-help books and blogs like this can provide valuable information and insights, it is the soul-to-soul contact with a trained professional that truly energizes and supports life changing personal growth.

Love will not simply fall in your lap.  Your must actively seek it out!

Get support.

Do the work.

Get the results!

My biggest learning in my relationships Ron was that I was the common problem. This is where I needed to start.

Dear Stephen, Thank you for posting a comment on my blog. I believe that you have hit the proverbial nail on the head. When both partners fully own and take full responsibility for their behavior and strive to do everything they can to honor their precious relationship, then the foundation for a mutually empowering relationship that will truly satisfy both partners is being built. Conscious, mutually empowering relationships just don’t happen; we have to collaboratively create them. To Love and courage, my friend.
Warmly, Ron Capocelli
